In addition, the Toyota sports car has acquired a pair of identical special versions, which are intended for the Japanese and American markets.
The twin coupes Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 (in some countries - just 86) appeared back in 2012. Now the market offers jointly developed second-generation models: in November 2020, the generation was replaced by a Subaru sports car, and in April 2021, a new two-door Toyota debuted. Now the versions of these models have been pulled up to the 2025 model year, the premiere took place on the domestic market.
During the modernization, the "regular" Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ coupes did not receive changes in appearance or interior design. The special version also features reinforced Brembo brakes with red calipers and Sachs shock absorbers (other versions are available for an extra charge). The interior is distinguished by the two-tone trim of the sports seats with brown suede and leather inserts.
The engine in the refreshed Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 has remained the same: the models are equipped with the same 235-horsepower naturally aspirated 2.4-liter engine. It is known that during the modernization of the coupe versions with a manual transmission, the gas pedal was reconfigured: the manufacturer noted that its responses ultimately became clearer and more responsive. The versions with a six-speed automatic transmission have a reconfigured algorithm for switching to lower gears. The Subaru coupe with a manual transmission now has a Sport driving mode.
During the update, the Toyota GR86 coupe also received a modified tire pressure monitoring system, as well as revised shock absorbers and a recalibrated electric power steering, which improved handling.
