The Waterloo region sees bulk food thefts with enviable regularity. A couple of years ago, two trailers of butter were stolen, the vehicles were later found abandoned, and the butter disappeared without a trace.

Then a truck with maple syrup was stolen, but the thieves came to their senses in time and abandoned it in a parking lot.

And now, in Wilmot Township, unknown individuals have stolen a trailer load of pistachios worth about $70,000, according to police, this is the second such theft in recent months.

Last November, a truckload of walnuts was stolen in Cambridge, but law enforcement has not yet said whether the same suspects are involved in both crimes.
