The Ford government has unveiled details of a plan to integrate public transportation in the GTA region, promising to put it into effect on February 26.
The One Fare program will allow riders to pay for a ride only once, regardless of the number of transfers to regional buses, subways, or streetcars, including in different cities.
The government estimates that it will save each person about $1,600 a year, and add 9 million new trips annually.
“With the cost of living rising, affordability is a key issue,” said Vijay Thanigasalam, deputy transportation minister, “and our government is making people’s lives easier.” The initiative will cost Ford's Conservatives $100-$150 million annually, as the government will compensate companies for the difference in pay
