Seven federal sites in Ottawa, including three sites near Hurdman Station, will soon be available for housing. The federal government announced the addition of 14 new sites to the Canada Public Land Bank, including seven in Ottawa and two in Gatineau, Quebec.

The Canada Public Land Bank was created in August and initially included 56 sites that support housing, of which 22 were in Ottawa.

The three sites near Hurdman Station will support transit-accessible housing. The other sites are located on Ledbury Avenue, Baseline Road, Robertson Road and the Ottawa South Corridor.

The move comes after the Ottawa Real Estate Board said there is a “chronic shortage” of housing in the city.

The new sites will help address the shortage, but leasing rather than selling the land could impact the type of development, with high-rise buildings being the primary focus.

Two new properties in Gatineau have also been added to the bank.
