Britta Curl-Salemme, far left, celebrates with Frost teammates after scoring the winning goal against the Charge in overtime

After a disappointing overtime loss to Minnesota Frost in Game 2 of the Walter Cup Final, the Ottawa Charge are confident, just as they were after a similar loss in Montreal in the first round.

Although the Charge lost 2-1 in overtime, they dominated on the ice, going 38-24 on shots, playing solid defense, and getting back to their style. “That was our game,” captain Brianna Jenner said. Defenseman Jocelyn Larocque added, “We’ve shown we can come back before, and we’ll do it again.”

Head coach Carla MacLeod emphasized that the team’s spirit and confidence have been boosted in the playoffs. Despite the pressure, the Charge have been able to shut down their leaders and defend Gwyneth Phillips’ goal with confidence. However, the forwards will need to step it up, as Frost goalie Maddie Rooney stopped 37 shots in Game 2 and is finding her form.

The third game will be played on Saturday in Minnesota. Whoever loses will be one step away from elimination. The series promises to be tense until the end.
