Nonviolent communication is the key to successful conflict resolution, since the underlying problem in many disputes is the inability of the parties to truly hear each other. Often, instead of accurately reproducing the words of the interlocutor, we offer our own interpretation, based on preconceived judgments and the desire to defend our position. This leads to a deepening of disagreements, since each side strives to defend its rightness and is not ready to admit the possible rightness of its opponent, which undermines its confidence in its own views.
To resolve a conflict, an open dialogue is required, where participants are ready to listen to each other and, possibly, reconsider their views. It is important to remember that each person is unique and the perception of the situation may differ, which does not exclude the general correctness. Understanding and satisfying basic human needs, such as physical well-being, self-esteem and social connection, plays a key role in resolving conflict and achieving mutual understanding.
