Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has appointed three new senators, including an Olympic medalist, philanthropist and head of the Canadian Women's Foundation. Among them: Marnie McBean, known as an outstanding rower who won four Olympic medals, including three gold. In addition to her, Tony Varone, a developer and director of the board of directors of the Crown Canada Lands Company, was appointed to the Senate. Also joining the Senate will be Paulette Senior, a former director of the YWCA of Canada who is active in gender equality issues. These appointments will fill vacant seats in the Ontario Senate.
