Ottawa will introduce a new Administrative Punishment System (APS) starting in June 2025, replacing the current practice of handling parking violations through the provincial courts. The city will now process these cases itself, speeding up the process and reducing the burden on the court system.
Under the new system, vehicle owners who receive a ticket will be able to either pay it online, in person or by mail, or request a review of the case by a city inspector within 15 days, providing a written explanation and supporting documentation.
The APS will eventually be expanded to cover other types of violations, such as red light running and speeding, recorded by cameras. This change is intended to improve efficiency and transparency in the handling of administrative violations in Ottawa.
