Senators End Road Series with Win over Detroit
The Ottawa Senators took two vital points in the fight for a playoff spot, beating the Detroit Red Wings 4-3. This is the second victory in a three-game road trip and strengthens their position in the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Goals were scored by Michael Amadio, David Perron, Tim Stuetzle and Thomas Chabot. Goaltender Linus Ullmark stopped 31 shots and noted that the team played much better than in the previous meeting with Buffalo.
Although Ottawa led 3-0 after two periods, Detroit tried to get back into the game in the third. Goals by Patrick Kane, Lucas Raymond and Vladimir Tarasenko reduced the gap, but the Senators held on to the advantage.
Coach Travis Green changed his lines after the loss to the Sabres, and it worked. Perron, who joined the team in the summer, continues to find form, scoring his third goal in three straight games.
Ottawa finished the season series with Detroit with a 2-0-2 record, and 5-1-1 over the last two seasons, preventing their opponent from returning to the playoff race.
David Perron leads the Senators to the playoffs
The Ottawa Senators are close to making the playoffs for the first time in eight years, and veteran David Perron is playing a key role in this push. He scored his seventh goal in a 4-3 victory over Detroit in March.
According to Sportlogiq, the Senators have a 98% chance of making the playoffs and an 84% chance of taking the first wild card spot. Perron, 36 and with 18 NHL seasons under his belt, has scored in three straight games and is showing he knows how to win.
