It is difficult to imagine our life without music. It is always with us, always sounds around and inside us, present in our consciousness as an integral part, life without which would be an obvious misunderstanding. Our entire past is connected with certain musical impressions, and various melodies, familiar and beloved, act as symbols of certain periods of life, causing immediate associations with specific events, phenomena, people. Music seems to help overcome the irreversibility of time, because it is associated with the memory of the heart - an amazing mechanism capable of overcoming the time distance, returning to the day lived. Isn't that why we value so much the opportunity to attend a concert where the music of childhood, youth, small homeland is played...
During April, a vocal group from Moldova toured the vast Canada for the first time, starting their tour in Vancouver and ending in Montreal. Having visited British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec, the young musical group from the post-Soviet country delighted the audience with their life-affirming concerts. According to the artists, the most successful was the final concert, which took place in Montreal's Theatre Plaza on April 28, attracting the maximum number of spectators. I was lucky enough to attend this concert - it was a real sell-out!
The vocal trio ''DoReDoS'' (Marina Jundiet, Evgeny Andrianov, Sergey Mytsa) was formed in 2011. In 2015 and 2016, the trio successfully participated in the national folklore competition in Chisinau. In 2017, she became a laureate of the international pop contest “New Wave” in Sochi, for which all three (Marina, Evgeniy and Sergey) received the title of Honored Artists of Moldova, and the trio’s popularity instantly grew, as did the number of fans of the group. In 2018, the trio represented their country at the prestigious international Eurovision Song Contest in Portugal with the song “My Lucky Day” (P. Kirkorov and J. Ballard), taking 10th place in the final.
F. Kirkorov himself, the author of the song they performed, prepared the trio for the contest, and he would not have given attention and time to unpromising singers. In 2022, M. Jundiet, E. Andrianov and S. Mytsa reached the final of the popular show “Nu-ka Vse Vmeste” on the first channel “Russia 1”. Since then, the audience of the fiery Moldovans has only steadily expanded.
I found myself at the concert in Montreal by chance, not being familiar with the trio's repertoire. Before the start of the hour and a half performance without intermissions, it was interesting to watch the arriving audience. The auditorium, which I had never been to before, consists of three tiers, with no seats on the lower one. In other words, right in front of the stage there was a dance hall, filled to capacity. The second tier reminded me of French cabarets, with a bar counter and round tables surrounded by comfortable chairs.
Only the third tier gave the impression of a classical theater, with seats arranged in a row. The very friendly audience caught my eye with the variety not of outfits, but of languages - Russian, French, English, Ukrainian, Moldovan speech was heard from all sides. I was also amazed by the age range of the audience – from children of primary school age to deep pensioners aged 80 plus. Imagine my amazement when I realized that 99% of those present were not only familiar with the repertoire of the touring artists, but knew their songs by heart! A lot of songs were performed in an hour and a half, and not only songs of the group ‘’DoReDoS’’, but also super hits of such pop stars as Sofia Rotaru, Maria Kodreanu, Philipp Kirkorov, arranged by the trio. An interesting observation: the trio’s vocalists have very different voices. But how beautifully they combine with each other! The songs were performed in different languages. Therefore, the vocalist of the group, hosting the concert, warned the audience from the very beginning in Russian and English that the concert program was made up of hits in different languages, as a sign of respect for the cultural traditions of many countries. It was so nice to watch the jubilant audience, who forgot about their age, about the political differences of different nations, about everyday problems... the audience sang along with the artists, smiled at each other, danced with pleasure, even on the second tier... and there is no need to talk about the first, dance floor: people came to listen to their favorite songs and dance heartily. I saw a lot of Moldovan national dances from the second tier, coming to the conclusion that there were many Moldovans (or dancers who know a lot about national dances) present at the concert. It is in Montreal, apparently, that the Moldovan diaspora is the largest in Canada. An hour and a half flew by like five minutes. The atmosphere was so friendly that I did not want to leave! Only positive emotions and high spirits reigned in the hall. We need more concerts like this! It is a pity that such artists rarely come to Ottawa. But Montreal is very close - twice as close as Toronto. And tickets for the Montreal concerts can be purchased online in advance.
Don't miss out a chance to immerse yourself in live music, soulfully performed by professional artists. Art, including performing art, sharpens our senses, cleanses us of negativity, and inspires us to glorious accomplishments. Thank you, ‘’DoReDoS’’, for the fiery greetings from sunny Moldova!
