Police investigating serious incident in city centre as one man arrested for assault
A large police presence was seen in the city centre on Wednesday morning. Officers attended Nepean Street, between Bank and Kent streets, to investigate an assault.
Paramedics said the call came in at around 4.30am. The victim was a man who had suffered serious blunt force injuries. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition but is not in life-threatening condition.
One man has been arrested on charges of serious assault. Police say there are no other suspects and there is no immediate threat to public safety.
Police work in the area is expected to continue for several hours.
