New virus outbreak in China! Virus more dangerous than COVID! Is there a new pandemic? Is there a vaccine for it?
For the first time in five years since Covid, a new virus, human metapneumovirus (HMPV), has broken out in China, NDTV World reports.
The disease is spreading rapidly across the country, with some hospitals already overwhelmed. According to scientists, the virus itself may be more dangerous than Covid-19.
HMPV is a respiratory disease that affects the upper and lower respiratory tract. HMPV is known to cause flu-like symptoms and can also have Covid-like symptoms.
Who is at risk?
Children under five, infants, older adults over 65, and people with weakened immune systems or chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma are at higher risk.
How does the new virus spread?
HMPV is spread through respiratory droplets: coughing, sneezing, close contact, such as touching or shaking hands, of contaminated surfaces, and then people touching their mouth, nose, or eyes.
Control Methods
The following steps should be taken to reduce the risk of HMPV and other respiratory diseases.
1. Wear masks in crowded places where there are outbreaks.
2. Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands.
3. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
4. Stay home when sick to prevent spreading the virus.
