The giant suspension bridge spanning the Detroit River, which will connect Ontario to Michigan, USA, is just 36 feet away from completion. There is only 36 feet, or 11 meters, left between the spans to accommodate the specially designed central component that will connect the halves of the bridge. The 853-meter Gordie Howe International Bridge will be the longest of its kind on the continent, joining the ranks of such famous suspension bridges as New York City's Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, and Michigan's Mackinac Bridge.
