North York General Hospital (NYGH) has begun using a new, unique Endoscopic Ultrasound System (EUS) that provides patients with a faster diagnosis, allowing them to begin treatment at an earlier stage.

EUS is used to detect and evaluate diseases of the digestive tract, including cancer.

The device creates a detailed image of hard-to-reach areas of the tract using an endoscope equipped with a light source and camera, in combination with an ultrasound device.

If a tumor is found during the exam, samples can be taken for analysis during the procedure, which is more convenient for the patient.

“With the new EUS, our patients can now have an improved diagnostic procedure on-site,” said Dr. Peter Stotland, interim chief of surgery at NYGH. - This allows us to make a diagnosis faster and begin personalized treatment, which makes care easier and gives better results.
