As part of the 2024 budget process, Ontario Premier Doug Ford sent a letter to Prime Minister Trudeau outlining additional priorities that require financial commitment from the Liberals.

First and foremost is funding for infrastructure, including roads, highways, and transit projects. The province noted that expanding GO Transit service along the Milton Line could cost $6 billion, according to preliminary estimates.

“We are asking the feds to contribute at least 50% of the capital costs of this important transit line that will serve millions of people in the Peel and Halton regions,” Ford wrote. “We are also asking the government to honor its commitment to partnership by contributing 40% of the costs of the four critical subway projects included in our 2021 agreement.

Their cost has increased due to inflationary processes created by the federal government. And it is only fair that you help with money to overcome this pressure”.
