Toyota RAV4

Top 10 Most Stolen Vehicles in Canada

New reports confirm that high-end SUVs and pickup trucks remain top targets for auto thieves, especially in Ontario and Quebec. According to the Équité Association, the most stolen vehicle in 2024 was the Toyota RAV4, with over 2,000 thefts nationwide. The reasons include strong demand, high resale value, and ease of export.

The top five also include the Dodge RAM 1500, Honda CR-V, Ford F-150, and Honda Civic — the only sedan on the list. They are followed by the Jeep Wrangler, Chevrolet/GMC Silverado/Sierra 1500, Toyota Highlander, Toyota Tundra, and Lexus RX, totaling more than 15,700 thefts.

Thieves primarily target 2020+ models due to vulnerabilities in keyless entry systems and high second-hand prices.

Despite a 19% decrease since 2023, insurance losses still exceed $1 billion annually. Experts note rising VIN tampering, dismantling vehicles for parts, and a surge in luxury auto thefts for cars valued over $200,000.

In May, the federal government launched a National Auto Theft Action Plan. Enhanced border inspections are showing results: 2,277 stolen vehicles intercepted in 2024 and more than 1,300 in 2025.
