Road Closure

King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s visit to Ottawa on May 20-21 will result in significant road closures in the city’s downtown core.

The royal couple will arrive at Ottawa International Airport around 1:15 p.m. Monday, before traveling to Lansdowne Park and then to Rideau Hall for a tree-planting ceremony (estimated at 2:50 p.m.).

The King will deliver his Speech from the Throne to the Senate on Tuesday, officially opening the 45th session of the Canadian Parliament. The speech is scheduled for 11 a.m.

The City of Ottawa and its security services are warning of temporary but significant road closures affecting vehicular traffic, public transit, pedestrians, and cyclists. Residents are advised to avoid travel to the downtown core. The exact timing of the closures may be announced at a later date due to safety concerns.

  • Airport Parkway
  • Hunt Club Road (between Riverside and Airport Parkway)
  • Colonel By Drive, Queen Elizabeth Driveway
  • Findlay Ave, Torrington Pl, Princess Patricia Way
  • Elgin St (Wellington to Laurier W)
  • Sussex Dr (Rideau to Rideau Gate)

Tuesday, 5am–1pm:

  • Rideau St (Dalhousie to Sussex)
  • Wellington St (to Lyon)
  • Intersections: Lyon, Kent, Bank, O'Connor, Metcalfe
  • Elgin St, Sussex Dr, Mackenzie Ave
  • Part of Colonel By Drive (Rideau to Daly)
