The Telegram messenger has gained more than 1 billion monthly active users, becoming the second most popular messaging service in the world after WhatsApp, excluding the Chinese WeChat, said the founder of the Telegram messenger Pavel Durov.

He noted that user engagement rates have also increased. According to Durov, on average, everyone opens Telegram 21 times a day and spends 41 minutes in it.

The company's profit has also grown significantly - in 2024, it amounted to $547 million. Durov claims that the administration of the WhatsApp messenger has been trying to copy Telegram's functions for many years, and also invested billions in lobbying and PR campaigns. However, Telegram continued to grow, became profitable and retained its independence.
