WASHINGTON: Trump and Putin held talks for about an hour and a half. Trump said the dialogue was “very productive” and stressed the intention to achieve a full ceasefire and then an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine.
According to the Kremlin, Trump proposed a mutual renunciation of strikes on energy infrastructure, to which Putin responded positively, immediately giving the corresponding order to Russian troops. This initiative came a week after Kyiv agreed to a 30-day pause covering all military actions.
The agreement also provided for the exchange of 175 Ukrainians and 175 Russians, and Russia agreed to return 23 seriously wounded Ukrainian servicemen. President Zelenskyy expressed support for the initiative to stop strikes on Russian energy facilities, but stressed the need for technical support for the ceasefire. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister expressed hope for a diplomatic solution to the conflict under Trump's leadership.
