Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre delivered a speech on defending Canada's sovereignty, economic independence and national identity.
Economy and trade policy
Poilievre promised to impose retaliatory tariffs on American goods and use the proceeds to support businesses, workers and reduce taxes. He stressed that Canada will never become the 51st state of the United States and is ready to defend its economic interests.
He also harshly criticized Donald Trump and Mark Carney, accusing them of destroying Canadian industry. "The combination of Trump's tariffs and the 'Carney carbon tax' threatens our economy and jobs," Poilievre said.
Poilievre's key promises:
- The largest tax cut in Canadian history
- Cut government spending and eliminate corporate subsidies
- Develop oil and gas infrastructure and remove interprovincial barriers
- Pass some of the taxes from natural resources to indigenous peoples
Protect history and national identity
Poilievre promised to restore Canada's historical heritage, return monuments to John A. Macdonald, redesign the passport, and strengthen defense, including building a military base in the Arctic.
The speech drew thousands of supporters, many of whom traveled from other regions to the rally. "He's a real patriot," said one participant.
