Your Career Pathway
Your High School Course Plan = Your Career Pathway
Did you know the courses you choose in high school can shape your future? Whether you’re aiming for university or college a well-mapped course plan is your key to success!
Here’s how to create YOUR roadmap:
Step 1: Know Your Destination
Knowing your destination doesn’t mean you have to figure it all out now—it’s about setting a direction to guide your choices and adjust as you grow.
Step 2: Check Prerequisites
Research post-secondary programs to understand what’s required (e.g., advanced math or specific sciences).
Make sure your course choices align with these prerequisites.
Step 3: Balance Core and Electives
Core Courses: These are must-haves for graduation—English (Ontario: grade 9, 10, 11, 12) math ( Ontario: grade 9,10, 11), science ( Ontario: grade 9 and 10),
Electives: Electives courses are courses where you can succeed (business, coding, culinary arts, etc.).
Step 4: Stay Flexible
Not sure what you want to do yet? That’s okay! Choose courses that keep multiple doors open while you figure it out.
Step 5: Review and Adjust
Revisit your plan each year with a counselor, or adviser to ensure you’re on track.
Add courses that align with emerging interests or changing goals.
