Despite inflation, Canadians are more enthusiastic about taking a vacation away from home this year than they were in 2023.

A survey by financial and insurance site HelloSafe found that 40.4% of its participants plan to travel despite the world’s geopolitical challenges, compared to 25% a year ago.

“Moreover, the increase in demand for vacations away from home is largely driven by the current situation in the country and reflects people’s desire to escape uncertainty,” says Alexandre Desoutter, a spokesperson for HelloSafe Canada. “This trend is a positive indicator for the Canadian economy, demonstrating consumer confidence that pre-pandemic activity will return.”

Among those who will not go on vacation, 32.4% blame inflation as the main reason.

At the same time, 32.4% plan to do so at other times of the year, when prices are lower and the flow of tourists is weaker.

22.7% of respondents said they want to stay at home, and 2.7% cited health reasons.

In total, 58.7% of people plan to vacation in Canada.
