The Prime Minister’s Office says the Emir of Qatar will be in Ottawa for a two-day visit this week. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on his first official visit to Canada.
The leaders will discuss the current situation in Gaza, as well as issues related to Afghanistan and Ukraine.
The United States, Qatar and Egypt have been trying for months to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.
Al Thani’s visit will also be an opportunity to discuss other priorities, such as increasing trade and investment ties.
Trudeau said in a statement that the two countries are “important partners.”
