Taisia Sekret: A Reputation Money Can’t Buy
How a ByWard Market clinic became Ottawa’s best two years in a row
In the heart of Ottawa, among historic façades, a clinic that residents deservedly call one of the city’s best has been operating for several years. Beauty Sekrets was named “Ottawa’s Best Aesthetic Clinic” in 2024 and 2025, while its Instagram page has attracted thousands of followers who closely watch the studio’s work.
We met with the clinic’s founder, Taisia Sekret, to find out how her medical background, family traditions, and attentive approach to clients helped create such a strong reputation.
Taisia, tell us how Beauty Sekrets began and why you chose ByWard Market.
I opened the clinic in 2018, and from the very beginning I knew I wanted to be right in the heart of the city — in a place where history meets modern life.
ByWard Market is the soul of Ottawa, a place people visit for authentic experiences rather than just another chain storefront.
I wanted the clinic to feel like more than an anonymous medical office. I wanted it to be a space with character: good lighting, quiet surroundings, and the feeling that you actually have time here, rather than just fifteen minutes on a schedule.
Before opening your studio, you worked as a nurse. How did that influence your practice?
I worked for many years as a registered nurse in trauma care, and that gave me something you cannot learn in aesthetic courses — the habit of taking responsibility for the outcome and never taking unnecessary risks with a client’s health.
Every injection and every procedure we perform is carried out with medical precision.
Clients often tell me that this sense of safety and reliability is exactly what makes them trust us from their very first visit.
The clinic is known for using some of the latest technologies. What do you currently offer?
We try to be among the first in Ottawa to introduce technologies with proven effectiveness: Ulthera for non-surgical lifting, advanced laser systems for skin rejuvenation, hair removal and pigmentation treatment, microneedling, PRP therapy, Sculptra biostimulators, and Belkyra injections.
But technology is only a tool, not the goal itself.
I always tell my team that even the most advanced device can never replace the attentive eye of a professional who sees the entire face, not just one area, and who knows when to say, “Not yet.”
Beauty Sekrets has been named Ottawa’s best aesthetic clinic for two consecutive years. What does this award mean to you?
This recognition is based in large part on reviews and votes from clients themselves, not only on the decision of an outside jury, and that makes it especially meaningful.
It means people do not just visit once. They come back. They bring their friends, mothers, and daughters.
For me, this award confirms that honesty and natural-looking results work better than any advertising, and that reputation cannot be bought — it can only be earned, year after year.
Who are your most typical clients today?
Most often, they are women over 35 or 40 — accomplished, busy women who are used to making their own decisions.
They do not come because they are unhappy with themselves. They come because they want to invest in themselves as thoughtfully as they invest in their career or their home.
Usually, they are interested not in one isolated procedure, but in a comprehensive approach: improving skin quality, creating a subtle lifting effect, and maintaining volume in the right areas.
I enjoy working with these clients because they know what they want and value an honest professional conversation more than beautiful promises.
Your father is also connected to the beauty and wellness industry. He has a studio called “Secrets of Beauty” in Gatineau. Tell us about that.
Yes, it is a funny family story.
My father is a licensed massage therapist and many years ago opened Secrets of Beauty in Gatineau, where he helps people deal with the effects of stress and physical tension through therapeutic massage.
We often joke that each of us chose a different half of caring for the human body: he works with the body, while I work with the skin and face.
But our philosophy is the same: do not push people into anything — listen to them and genuinely help.
How do you find the balance between a noticeable effect and a natural result?
It is something we work on every day. There is no simple formula.
I always believe in moderation. It is better to do one step less and evaluate the result after a couple of weeks than to do too much at once and regret it later.
If a client comes in saying, “I want a completely different face,” we always stop and have a separate conversation about that.
The best compliment for me is when a client’s friend says, “You look amazing,” but cannot figure out exactly what has changed.
Tell us more about Sekrets Glow. Why has this become your signature treatment?
Sekrets Glow is a treatment that reflects our philosophy very well.
Its purpose is not to change the face, but to improve skin quality, restore freshness, firmness, and radiance.
It is a method focused on regeneration and natural recovery.
I love results that do not look like “I had something done,” but rather like “I had a great rest, slept well, and look refreshed.”
After treatments like this, the skin looks healthier, smoother, and better cared for.
For many clients, that is exactly the desired result — not a dramatic transformation, but a healthy, natural glow.
Many people are afraid of injectable procedures. How do you address those concerns?
It is completely normal to feel nervous before a first procedure, especially if someone has heard different stories or seen poor results online.
That is why we always explain everything in detail: what will happen, how long the procedure takes, what sensations may occur, what recovery is like, and what restrictions there may be afterward.
Trust between the client and the specialist is extremely important.
A person needs to know they will not be pressured into unnecessary procedures.
If I believe a treatment is not needed, or that it is better to wait, I will say so.
Honesty is the foundation of a good result.
How do you determine where the line is between “improving” and “overdoing it”?
This is one of the most important questions in aesthetics.
A good specialist should see not only an individual area, but the whole face: proportions, facial expressions, age, and the person’s overall style.
Sometimes a very small correction creates a much better result than a major intervention.
I always support moderation.
It is better to move gradually, observe how the face responds, and preserve harmony.
Beauty should never look artificial.
For me, the greatest compliment after a procedure is when people tell the client, “You look so good,” but cannot identify exactly what has changed.
You mentioned that skin reflects not only age but lifestyle as well. Which habits have the greatest impact on appearance?
Sleep, hydration, nutrition, stress levels, regular skincare, and sun protection — everything matters.
Even the most advanced treatments work better when a person takes care of themselves every day.
You cannot visit a specialist once and completely compensate for months of poor sleep and stress.
I always explain to clients that aesthetic medicine is not magic; it is a partnership.
We can help the skin recover, improve tissue quality, and choose powerful professional treatments.
But home care and lifestyle are also extremely important.
What, in your opinion, makes Beauty Sekrets different from an ordinary aesthetic studio?
I think it is first and foremost the atmosphere and the approach.
Here, a person does not feel like “just another client.”
We try to create a space that feels calm, professional, beautiful, and safe.
A place where you can ask any question and openly discuss fears, expectations, budget, and a skincare plan.
We also have a very strong team.
These are professionals who continuously learn, improve their qualifications, follow new technologies, and at the same time maintain a very human approach to every client.
That is essential to me: professionalism without warmth simply does not work in the beauty industry.
What would you advise readers of “Our Ottawa” who are still hesitant to take the first step?
Start with a consultation.
It does not commit you to anything, but it gives you clarity and removes much of the anxiety.
Taking care of yourself after 35 or 40 is not a luxury or a whim. It is a sensible investment in quality of life, just like good sleep or exercise.
You deserve to feel confident every day, not only on special occasions, and a good specialist will always help you find the right, gentle path to achieve that.
