How Radio “Voice of the Capital” Is Creating a New Rhythm for Ottawa
Ottawa is a city of thousands of stories, talents, and destinies. A year and a half ago, our capital found its own special sound — the online radio station Voice of the Capital. At Nasha Ottawa Publishing, we have always believed that a modern media outlet should be wherever its audience is: in the car on the way to work, in the kitchen over a morning coffee, or in headphones during a run through Gatineau Park. That is exactly how, a year and a half ago, Voice of the Capital was born.
The radio station became a natural extension of our glossy magazine, transforming Nasha Ottawa into a full-fledged multimedia ecosystem. Today, we are not only a high-quality print publication, but also the city web portal NashaOttawa.ca, online TV, social media, and, of course, radio. This format allows us to stay connected with you 24/7.
The success of Voice of the Capital is no accident. At its core are many years of experience and a true passion for the work. Back in 2017–2020, Yuri, the publisher of Nasha Ottawa, was one of the organizers of a multicultural broadcasting project in Toronto. That project, which brought together programs in more than 20 languages, received a prestigious award from the National Committee of Canada for Press and Media.
The pandemic changed many things, putting numerous projects on hold, but it could not put a dream on hold. Today, all of that knowledge and experience — from technical streaming to news curation and interviewing skills — has been embodied in the Voice of the Capital project. And the station’s постоянный host, Pavel Rozhkov, creates our signature style every day by selecting music that sets the right mood for all our listeners.
“Radio is a unique platform. It does not require you to sit glued to your phone, and at the same time it gives you a sense of belonging to the life of the city,” says Yuri, publisher of Nasha Ottawa.
So what is playing through your speakers today? Voice of the Capital is a radio station where there is room for everything:
Music archive: from nostalgic Soviet-era hits and timeless classics to ultra-modern tracks.
Useful content: fresh news from Canada, Ottawa, and Gatineau, interviews with experts and interesting people from our city, and podcasts on current topics.
For the whole family: warm children’s stories and informative programs for young listeners.
Over the past year and a half, we have grown from a local project into a serious platform with an audience of tens of thousands of listeners every month. We are heard in the United States and Europe, but the heart of our audience is here — in Ottawa and Gatineau.
In the new season, we are setting ourselves an ambitious goal: to make the broadcast even more truly “capital.” We want Voice of the Capital to sound with the voices of our neighbors — local musicians, poets, journalists, and entrepreneurs. We invite collaboration from:
Authors and hosts: If you have an idea for a podcast or a segment like “What Matters in Ottawa Today,” we will give you a microphone and an audience.
Musicians: We want thousands of listeners to hear your music.
Business partners: Tell people about your work through a live interview or a sponsored segment.
Your experience is not what matters most to us — your love for the city and your desire to share something meaningful are what matter. After all, the best stories are told by those who know Ottawa from the inside.
