The annual Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend is set to see ideal weather conditions – cool temperatures instead of the usual heat that has earned the race the nickname “HOTtawa”.
Last year, the marathon was held during a heat wave: temperatures rose to 30°C, and due to the high humidity, many participants were forced to slow down. At the time, the marathon’s head doctor warned: “If it’s hot, it’s not a day for personal bests.”
This year, things are different. On Sunday, when the half marathon and marathon will take place, the maximum temperature is expected to be +18°C, with clouds and light rain. Participants in the middle-distance races on Saturday will be even luckier – up to +13°C.
“It looks like we’ll get lucky with the cool weather and the sun. It’s going to be a great race for everyone,” said participant Connor Noad. And marathon runner Anna Versluis added: “I’m expecting support from the spectators – they say all of Ottawa comes out to cheer.”
