Canada will have a new prime minister on Friday when Governor General Mary Simon officiates at the swearing-in of Mark Carney.

The former Bank of Canada governor will become Canada's 24th prime minister and the first to have never served in political office. The swearing-in will also end Justin Trudeau's nine-year reign as prime minister.
