Trump Mexico

“Mexico will not be subject to tariffs on USMCA products until April 2,” Trump said.

WASHINGTON. U.S. President Donald Trump announced on March 6 that he was suspending 25% tariffs on Mexican goods and services covered by the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement (USMCA) until April 2.

“After discussions with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, I have agreed that Mexico will not be subject to tariffs on USMCA products until April 2. This is a temporary measure out of respect for President Sheinbaum,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He also thanked the Mexican leader for her cooperation in combating illegal immigration and fentanyl smuggling:

“Our relationship is going well. We are working together to strengthen the border to stop illegal immigration and the flow of fentanyl into the United States. Thank you President Sheinbaum for your hard work!"

Canada Tariffs Remain

On March 4, Trump imposed tariffs on Canada and Mexico, and doubled the tariff on Chinese imports from 10% to 20%. However, unlike Mexico, Canada received no relief.

Trump said he personally discussed the tariffs with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, but blamed him for escalating the situation:

"Believe it or not, despite his terrible management, Trudeau is using the tariff situation he created to run for Prime Minister again. It's very funny to watch!"
